the games you want to play are not really that demanding , only Doom3 but even then its a very efficient game engine and would run on most machines IMHO [memory] if you want to go with 1 gig of ram, wich is fine for most aps and games , you beter get two 512 sticks so you wont do without dual channel, it really helps in games [processor]if you are geting a 3200, spend acouple of bucks more, like $20 and get a 3700, it has a newer core and will run cooler [video] your video is more than adequate for your games , too much for what you want to play. get a more mid range card like a x800 gto or nvidia 6600 gt and use that money to up your processor and memory. you could also get a mid range controller based sound card like audiogy or xfi so you dont have to rely on processor, built in sound really drags processor down. [HD] no sugestions Sata is adequate

If you leave a channel open, you will be able to upgrade to two without having to buy more then one gig stick afterwards... that is to say the motherboard only has two channels.

looks to me like he wants to build an economy system and may not want to get more memory later, one gig is fine for most games not runing in ultra detali setings , but if one must go with little memory, he may as well take advantage of dual channel. it does seem to me his initial system plan was unbalaced with too much video card and not enough processor and memory.

I would have said COD2 is very demanding. My old Rig which was an AMD64 3000+, 1gb PC3200, X800XL 256MB & Audigy 2 ZS would not run COD2 maxed out on a 19" TFT at a decent frame rate. If your looking to run COD2 I would get a more beefy rig esp if you weant to run at high settings. My new rig which is an AMD64 3700+ @ FX57, 2gb PC3200, X1900XT & X-Fi runs it very nicely but I can still get slight FPS drops to high 40's when i'm in a smoke filled streets with grenades and gunfire being exchanged by about 20 people.

If your running COD2 a high end VPU, fast processor & 2gb are essential if you are planning on playing it at high settings.

you were doing something wrong, my current rig runs CoD2 at 1280x1024 resolution with graphics on highest settings (except AA and AF) and my fps never drops below 40

Is that on DX7 mode or DX9 mode? If its on DX9 mode then you will definetly drop below 40FPS at points and be lucky to maintain 40FPS because your graphics card simply is not powerful enough just like mine was not. I found it was fairly playable on 1024 x 768 before I got my TFT but when I got it and bumped up the resolution it didn't like it and was lagging alot :(
