Hey everyone, I'm currently having problems with my HP Pavilion a450n getting power. It just started on this past Sunday when I moved my computer to a friends house. When I plug everything in the power light on the computer flashes and obviously the computer won't turn on. I haven't added any new hardware since... before Christmas. The first time it happened I tried switches outlets and everything, to no avail, but then it randomly started working, this time I haven't had such luck. It's been flashing for the past... 5 or so hours (I was out of the house). I've tried different cables, the outlet is good becuase my monitor has power and everything, and it's not the surge protector. Any help or idea's as to what is wrong and/or what I could do to fix it would be greatly appreciated, I can't stand using my parent's computer, it sucks. Thanks in advance

Buy a new power supply. Many people think that when a power supply goes out, it just won't supply power any more, but the truth is that a power supply can get flaky gradually, and may give the appearance of being something else that is wrong.

Before you buy a new power supply, have you tried other outlets in the house? Have you tried another location(ie another freind's house)? Do yourself a favor and try these things first. If the wall outlet(s) you are plugging into are wired wrong, it can prevent your computer from working. If you try those things and still no go, your next step is to try testing the power supply.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. My PC is 1.5 yrs old and can play HL2, FarCry, etc at 70fps. on max. I you have a good comp to start with, it's worth the effort. If the computer couldn't get out of it's own way before the failure, then no it's not worth it. But don't throw it off of a building.:p

^^^ It would be easier to grab a new PSU, but HP is notorios for making sure you can't upgrade:p I got a good mobo, drives, ram, and processor. I want to upgrade, but throwing it all out is pointless since I paid $1200 for it:p

I still have my 2.4 northwood that I built over 3 years ago. It's still a great comp, for when freinds come over for LAN play, it's not worth it to try and sell, and I can still use it for other things. It makes no sense to get rid of it.

eekx.gif, we have the same processor:p. All I need is a new PSU, another HD and new x800XL. People get too caut up in power, replacing 2.4ghz processors with 3.6 ones.
