I have been looking at some video cards as i am upgrading for christmas. I will have £230 and my interface is AGP. I have got it down to 2 cards, i think. The ATI Radeon x800xl 256mb (second one down) £200 or The ATI Radeon x850 pro 256mb £165 The xl has more pipes (16 compared to 12), but the pro has higher core/memory speeds. Which one is better? Which one is meant to be better? is then xl suppost to be lower than the pro? Any other cards welcome but i was going to try and keep £30 for ram. I am going to order within the next few days!!!!! Ok, just saw this one too! The XT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! £210! Thanks!

Go for the x850 pro, memory speeds is the core benefactor.

This is the best for £235 HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X850 XT ICEQII 256MB DDR3 VIVO TV-Out/DVI (AGP) Or for £176 HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X800 XL ICEQII 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) Source Oh and for the record the X800 XL is faster than a X850 Pro.

Its kinda sucks your on AGP as for PCI-E you can get a X850 XT for £152 :p

Is the HIS xt £235 one that much better than the £210 xt one? So get the pro over the xl????? I have seen pci-e 754mobo's but if i change mobo i have to reinstall windows dont i?? If not then i would get new mobo and graphics card. Has anyone got any comparison charts with these three AGP cards in? Thanks.

I would get a X800Xl over the X850 Pro, you get 4 more pixel pipelines in the XL which really help at high resolutions or when you crank up the AA/AF. Plus the XL can be overclocked to or near X800XT speeds if you have good cooling.

You wouldn't have to reformat your windows install if you change your mobo, but you might have to do a repair install instead, which only replaces the base windows files.

But is the xl worth £35 more? The pro is £165 and the xl is £200. I could get some more ram with the extra money. Also how much better is the £210 asus xt card. I want to play BF2 at real good resolutions!!!!!!!! Thanks

Just to clear a few things :

ts kinda sucks your on AGP as for PCI-E you can get a X850 XT for £152 tongue1.gif

There is an AGP version of the X850XT

i know its pci-e but

PCI-E does not make any major impact on performance. Cards are far from being powerful enough to even fully use AGP, so them being in PCI-E really doesn't add much. I'm pretty sure even newer cards could be AGP without performance lost. Only reason why getting PCI-E mobo is a good idea is because all new good cards are exclusively made for PCI-E.

Get the X800XL, altho you might be able to flash the X850pro to use 16 pipes (i'm not certain if you can do that on a X850pro, but you can do it on a X800pro). Otherwise :

Also how much better is the £210 asus xt card.

Much better. MUCH better. Get the XT.

Is the HIS xt £235 one that much better than the £210 xt one?

No, but I'm pretty sure it comes with a better cooling system. There are little to no performance difference.

The X850 Pro - its newer!

Not a good argument. The X850 and X800 series are almost exactly identical.

Go for the x850 pro, memory speeds is the core benefactor.

Pipes are more important. I've flashed my X800pro to make it use its 16 pipes. To give an idea, this gave a 2000 points bonus in 3dMark (4400 vs 6400 now).

Where are you seeing an X800 XL for £200? There is one much cheaper here The Asus XT, I assume you are refering to a X850XT? It will be faster than a X850 Pro and a X800XL but only but a few frames per second.

I know, but they are much more expensive due to them being discontinued. A PCI-E X850XT costs £152 where as a AGP X850XT costs £235. Source
