I'm not too familiar with video cards, and i was wondering if a my geforce 5200 was as good, or better than a Geforce 3 card? If not, what cards are that are fairly affordable, like, within the 100-200 dollar range.

The Geforce FX 5200 is basically a Geforce 5 card.

$100-$200 in what nations currency? USD, or U.S. Dollars, seems to be the average. A Geforce FX 5950 Ultra, or a Geforce 6200, possibly even a Geforce 6600 could be had at that price. AGP 6xxx series cards will cost more than their PCI Express counterparts.

*The Geforce 6200, 6600, and 6800 are basically Geforce 6 cards.

ATI Radeon's are usually faster since the 9xxx series, but as a result get much hotter. You should be able to pick up a Radeon 9800Pro, for around that price. Most newer Radeon 9800Pros are actually Radeon 9800XTs. All you need is a 9800XT Flash update.

Which slot? I'm assuming its an AGP slot.

I recommend MSI, as a brand. They may be slightly more expensive, but quality is guaranteed.

That FX 5200 will play BF2 very poorly thoe. All setting for graphics will be on low and you will lag a lot. If I was you I would get a better video card like a 6600gt.

Battlefield 2 does require a serious system, or graphics card.

What are the rest of your systems specs?

A FX 5200 plays like that on BFV, i can't imagine running BF2 on it.

I used to have a GeForce FX 5200 and it was an OK card, but to play games like Forgotten Hope or BF2, I would suggest a better card. I recently replaced mine with a 6800 and love it! If you want to play BF2 with the 5200, you WILL have to turn settings down for it to play right.

Well i play Desert combat (bf 42 mod) quite a bit, and it runs quite good. and btw, i just checked on the geforce 6800... thats a tad bit out of my price range, only by like... 150-200 dollars... lol. How about the Geforce 5600 and 5700 cards? And their ATI equivilants? system specs: AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 2.08 GHz 768 MB Ram Win XP 80 GB hard drive. Geforce 5200 FX 128 MB.

To my knowledge BF2 will be heavier than DC, but how much will probably be seen in a few weeks. You could wait and see if it works or not. I'd be happy if it would, since that would give my Radeon 9550SE a chance too. (It works pretty well in FH, maxed out on 800x600, or alternatively medium 1024x768, or did until recently when I started getting odd texture bugs, but that's o/t.)

From what I've heard of the 5600 and 5700 cards you should forget them, but I might be biased towards ATI. A 9800Pro should be much better than those. Geforce 6600GT certainly too.

A Geforce FX 5700, will probably just barely be good enough.

The FX series has a reputation for being the second worst cards nVidia ever made. They are compatible, and don't overheat quite as often as the equivalent ATI Radeon cards.

ATI's 9200s, and 9600 cards would perform better, but will not have access to the more advanced effects. However, they seem to be prone to heat issues.
