There is a spyware/ad thingy program I found on my PC and its 'atmclk.exe'. It's made it past my scanners and I have done everything I could to get rid of it but it just won't die! I've brought up the Task Manager and tried ending the process but it just starts up again the moment I end it. How do I freeze this thing so that it doesn't start up so that I can delete it? Or any other advice?

Start it in safe mode, this will start the pc with minimum programs running. Do a search for the .exe you need to get rid of then delete it whilst still in safe mode. Be sure to empty your temp. folder and the Prefetch folder.

Run msconfig and stop it from attempting to start and turn off the pc. Then start it as normal and it shouldnt bother you again.

sorry but what exactly is msconfig for? I've got the same problem-though I haven't had the best of luck with deleting all of them in safe mode.

Assuming you use Microsoft Windows, I just have to say that I found this thread title extremely ironic. :D

start>run>type in "msconfig" then go under the start up tab.

MS Configuration is as stated. You can modify/edit processes that are launched upon start up.

and make sure to have hidden folders/files shown. the adware/spyware tends to make itself hidden upon infection. to do this: open any explorer window (windows explorer, not IE) and go to tools -> folder options -> "view" tab -> find the hidden files and folders section and check the "show hidden files and folders" circle hope that helps somewhat
