Congrats, Marvin. EDIT: Wait, Your only 200 posts behind me now. Perhaps I need to post more...

Six or Seven Years. The average life of a console these days, is four years. Maybe six.

I am not bothered by having the same general graphics for five or six years, as long as they are good. Heck, I still play the SNES, because it looks good.

marvinmatthew;3701521... That's why video cards are becoming so obsolete so quickly, because the games are evolving so fast.

Well what we are saying,, you DONT have to have the best fastest bling bling card to play these 'new' games!! If guys want bragging rights and an e-boner then go for it. But my cash means more to me atm than wasting it on a card I dont need to get good game play when theres card that are 50% cheaper that play just as well. ;)

Ya, I don't see what the fuss is about... I didn't mind playing sims 2, guild wars, and halo on a radeon X300... Well, that's not to say my recent upgrade hadn't served me amazingly...

My point is that it's largely the fault of us consumers that are cards are becoming so obsolete so quickly these days. If we didn't demand games that had incredibly high end graphics, then we wouldn't get them, and graphic card technology wouldn't be advancing as fast as it is.

I was joking about the hardware and game makers being in cahoots. My point was that HL2's engine is so efficient that I can hit 100+ fps at max quality. While a visually comparable (I use that term loosely) game such as Oblivion, I can barely hit 40 fps (outdoors). I know textures, particles and longer distance rendering make a difference there, but it does raise questions as to why a DX9 game is that demanding.
