I found this article about upgrading laptop components, and I was wondering how relevant it is, since it was written in 2001.

If anything, I would think things have become more open.

Thanks

I know that today it is easy to upgrade the ram and hard drive in a laptop. The processors can be upgraded, but the bus speeds on the motherboards limit their effectiveness.

A standard design for laptops would be great for the end user, however computer builders would end up loosing a good deal of business.

I know there are some DIY laptops. They use mostly desktop components due to availability and ease of assembly. However they are not efficient or lightweight.
