NEO_87;3295499Thats why mac is better, more stable and no virusus.

someday a virus will be made to kill off macs.....the dream anyway :-D

sounds like apple are in line for a few law suits or at least compensation for data loss ( unless there software agreements cover them)

Nemmerle;3296299To actually ship with a virus on the Ipod though means some idiot introduced a virus into the thing at Apple's end.

Indeed, it has nothing to do with video iPods being able to play WMV files.

G®33N<@|>;3295728Heh, did you not read this.....

Apple should use their own stuff.....

That makes no sense.

I know how the virus multiplies, what I'm asking is how it even got on any iPods in the first place.

Macs are not the end all be all of security as far as their os ... Do you know why macs do not have as many virus' written for it ? it isn't because the os is based on blah blah blah.

It is the fact that macs are not mainstream. A small portion of the population uses them therefore hacks and scripters don't bother with them ....

When macs go mainstream they will have the same issues as everyone else in the world. If an os can be coded, so can a virus that will affect it.

A virus works by exploiting flaws in a system. It is possible to write a system which a virus cannot affect, it's just more and more difficult to do the more complex you make such a system. By the time you get up to a level where you're allowing other programs to interface with it and work through it it's generally almost impossible to have had all your programmers leave no holes in a system. It's one of the reasons bloat-ware is such an incredibly bad idea.

software written by humans? already flawed. By the very nature of humanity, there can be no perfection. This includes software. So i stand by the opinion ( my own of course) that within the span of the next 5-7 years, steve jobs and the mac industry will be mainstream and will have the same issues as everyone else. There is NOTHING built by man that will stand forever nor be perfect.

Code can check itself, it's a major function of all compilers these days. When we first made a hammer it was a nasty thing that barely did its function, but we used it to make a better hammer, and now we have some very nice hammers. We can make some nasty code, which can be used to make better code, our technology evolves - we are not perfect, and the things we make are not perfect at the moment. But we can imagine perfection, and so we can refine what we make, reach for that perfection. What we make today is not perfect, but eventually we shall make the tools for that perfection.

touche... but we are not talking hammers LOL... we still see cars with recalls and humans make the machines that make the parts for the machines that make the parts for the cars which are made for humans to drive till the recall comes in till the car is repaired by humans using machines who made the machines who were built by humans using the parts built by humans who made the machines .... arrrrrrghhhhh head combust.

fact of the matter is. There is nothing perfect in the world of computing... If there is a way to be found in and out or around an os... Someone will find ... Perpetuating the fact that Human's are not perfect and neither are any of their creations, whether it be code, program, program that makes the code, which makes the code checker to check the program for code errors and ... bah ... you get the code.... errrr picture.....
