HOW TO MAKE FIREFOX FASTER TUTORIAL
By Daniel Lockheart

First off if your still using IE and you wanna use something a little bit better. Goto getmozillafirefox.com and download it.

  1. Open Firefox and on the address bar write about:config and hit enter
  2. Find the string: "network.http.pipelining" double click it to change the value to true.
  3. Find the string: "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" double click it and change the value to 34.
  4. Find the string: " browser.turbo.enabled" double click it to change the value to true. Version 1.5.0.1 does not have the "browser.turbo.enabled" string.
  5. Right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".

Now close and restart and see the new amazing new speed of firefox.

So I assume this still works even though 1.5.0.1 and 2.0 dont have this?

Well I did all the stuff, except #4 and it seems to run faster.

That's because it is. The other steps have existed for speeding Firefox up faster for ages, it's just the turbo one that you can't do.

The first increases the amount of requests your browser can send to a server at once (which means less waiting for files to be requested and downloaded) and the second removes the delay before a page begins to display in your browser.

The fasterfox extension pretty much takes care of all of this.

If you want a faster browser (core app) try a 3rd party build for your platform at http://forums.mozillazine.org/.
