Hey guys, I got an HP Pavilion dv6103nr which I need to reformat with Windows XP Media Center Edition (the one it came with). I've only worked with official XP discs and Dell re-install discs. I guess on this on you have to create recovery discs from the program on this laptop. I am going to try it out.
How come it says I need 3 DVD's or 18 CD's to make recovery discs? All I want is the OS. Is there any way around this? Or does HP just suck.
Whether you like it or not most recovery programs will restore it to factory settings and won't just let you reinstall plain old Windows. In other words it'll put on all the junk HP put on there when it left the factory. I don't know why it's asking for 14GB worth of storage but it may be that for the sake of speed it's not compressed or something like that.
Just use a normal Windows disk. If you go with HP's recovery tools, you'll be restoring all the bloatware that comes pre-installed.
It's media center though, I've had the worst time trying to load Media Center on a computer. I never could find a disc that would accept the OEM on the case.
I didn't make it!
