It might not be worth it to put any money into a system built around a Pentium 4.

You know that core 2 duo's is more powerful then amds. Even the "slowest" core 2 is very fast.

Save up more money till you get till atleast 750 dollars then we could probally help you buy into computer parts that are actually good+ giving you a nice long upgrading headroom... With that budget go get your self an Xbox 360 or perhaps cheap AGP card+ more ram and you'll be much better off then buying into an extermly dated AGP/ AMD XP PC. :)

He's fixing his current PC. He isn't buying into anything. Last I checked there was nothing wrong with LGA775 and it's certainly not dated or obsolete.

There's nothing wrong with a socket 775 P4 system yet, they may not be the newest hardware but there fast enough to get the job done.

So, you need a CPU to fix your other computer? Are you looking for a single or dual core? What type and how much Ram do you need?

Well I am not necessarily going to get one or the other, just what is the most power i can get with the money assuming I want to game. Oh and I thought 775 was the latest socket! :\

Well ya either one is good just as long as it will run any game smoothly assuming I get a new GFX card for X-mas.:uhm:

EDIT: Btw the mobo is a P5LD2 asus

EDIT AGAIN: hmmm...ram well.... whatever is the best after you factor the case and cpu in, if worse comes to worse, I could live without more ram and just wait till payday 2!

775 is the current/latest Intel socket. There's nothing wrong with it. These guys aren't really insulting socket 775, they're insulting the Pentium 4, which was essentially rendered obsolete by Core 2 Duo.

Why do you even need a new case? I'd keep whatever your current one is, buy a new motherboard (Intel 965 or 975 based) and stick a Core 2 Duo on it.
