My opinion, is that the future lies in power efficiency and multiple cores, like maybe 64cores by 2017? 64cores at 2ghz with higher complexity than an fx-60 would rock. Maybe at some point this tech will make 10-20ghz chips that can still work in a multicore environment, and that would very simply kick ass.
No,no,and no.As things get more and more advanced,they'll try to make the chips smaller and smaller but with more power.If anything,someday we'll see chips as small as a thumbtack but with more power than 10 of today's best chips.
I dont think they will make the physical chip smaller, as with the current size they can pack lots of transistors in, they won't want to reduce that number.
