OK....all of a sudden Microsoft Networking has come up whenever i boot up my computer. I can click either Ok, or, Cancel, but neither of them allow me to install programs. Is there a way to take off microsoft networking because, i need to install Steam, but it won't open.
I take what n0e says way too seriously

There is a way to remove certain windows components from ur PC, but if you use networking or ever will, it is not advised. Of course, i think this is only on XP, that is what i have and u didn't say what u have so...........for xp: u go to control pannel then add/remove programs. Then click on the tab called: add/remove windows components. Boxes which are ticked mean that that thing is installed. Untick home networking then click on remove. If this completely fuks up ur pc, then u can alwasy put it back on after. THIS MIGHT NOT WORK, but its worth a try. Make a system restore point as well before you do it, just incase it all goes terribly wrong...............
This is my moms computer, With 600Mhz, 320 Ram, Windows ME. She's had Win ME for about a year.
WinME is a disaster. Expect shit to hit the fan.

Agreed, ME was a Microsoft stalling gambit, that was never meant to be completed. But as to Jerome's prob: What box? More info. I THINK you are talking about the login box. If so, go in to the connection properties for the appropriate card (modem or Network Interface Card (NIC), but most likely NIC), and deselect client for Microsoft Networking. Good luck
Ok, A login Box comes up telling me to enter a password for Microsoft Networking. I can click enter, or cancel, and login, but i cant install any programs I download. I have no friewalls, or anything of that sort. Also there is no NIC card on this computer.
then you have an integrated NIC card or you have Dialup with a modem card, does that sound right? does this login box dome up when you try to open internet explorer? or when th ecomp first boots up?
