Has anyone heard of the new Light Peak specification?

Light Peak Technology

Basically Apple developed a method of making fiber optics MUCH cheaper and faster. The went to Intel to develop it for them.

Alarms go off immediately when Apple is in the driver's seat of a tech they claim to be "affordable". My only hope is the courts do not see Apple's version of FO tech as a separate standard and allows anyone to manufacture this type of connector without paying Apple royalties.

That being said, this IS the kind of tech that will be needed in gearing up for the transition to a total global FO network. In fact the ICs themselves are going to have to be rethought eventually. Word is Intel has been working on a cube shaped processor for some time that uses similar tech.
