Zamamee;4916363Computernerd...for the love of god, get yourself a real graphics card. Get a shitty part time job at any fast food place, make $7 an hour, get two paychecks, put half of each in a savings account, and with the other halves you should have plenty to get a good graphics card.
I'm trying to, but I've had no luck as of yet, and I've applied at least 7 times total. But, there is hope yet: my Dad told me I can actually work for the business he works for and get on the payroll, which means once I start working with him (which would be Monday) I can start building my own rig. With THIS:
It's because I can get so much better prices and service online.

I totally agree, I've noticed that the stuff I'm going to put in my rig was $20 to $30 more at Fry's than on Newegg.

Hope you know a fast video card doesn't make a system. Especially if everything else isn't equally balanced.

I know, I'm not getting that card for my current rig, in fact I'm not upgrading this rig at all. It's almost a decade old. I'm getting the 285 for my planned rig.

I know what you mean, unfortunately. I've been struggling to find work for months now. If all goes well, though, I might be getting a delivery job at a local pizza place, which will let me pay for some notebook parts I've been needing.

By the time you get money, 285 is going to be old news. Unless you get a steal on the card I would wait until the 3xx or 58xx cards.

As sarge once said "Being released to the public is what makes technology obsolete, and the only way to stay ahead of the curve is to invest in products that don't exist and hopefully never will." Which means I'm gonna start investing in the Geforce GTX FX Riva TNT 4000 ;), but no seriously it won't really matter, I mean the 285 is already obsolete, and by the time I make the money for my rig, it will be reduced in price :)

Mine wasn't as dramatic as some here, but it felt nice:

6600GT/ 2.53GHZ P4/ 1GB ---> 7900GTX/ 2.7GHz 4400+ X2/ 2GB

That was basically two generations ago for the gpu/cpu/ram for me.

Lately I've been trying to purge all the old useless stuff. I hate tossing it, so I've found homes for most of it. So far I've gotten rid of 2 monitors (17" and 20"), 2 running PCs (933mhz P3 & 2.0ghz P4), some ram and a few videocards (9550, 9600XT, 6600GT, 7950GT) to friends who found this old stuff rather useful.

Ok, you got me beat!

I've got rid of some of my older stuff as well. The slowest PC i still have is a Athlon XP 2900+ / 1GB ram. I do have a couple of old CPU's laying around though with no homes, i have a Pentium III 533Mhz, a Pentium III 733Mhz, a Pentium III-S 1.26Ghz, and my old Xeon E3110 all sitting here not being used. I would really like to get that Xeon back in something, that thing will do 4.3+ no problem.
