Are you sure you don't have a router? Many DSL models, if not most, are hybrid modems/routers. One way to determine such is by going to this website:

WhatIsMyIP.com

Compare that with the IP you get w/ IPCONFIG in CMD Prompt.

To check your IP w/ CMD Prompt, open Run, type:cmd, type:ipconfig. If they aren't the same, you are most definitely behind a router. But then again, a router wouldn't neccesarily block internet connections. What applications/software you trying to use but can't?

Sounds like an issue with your ISP. Try running a speed-test on Speakeasy - Speed Test

If you can't get anywhere close to your maximum cap, then the problem's at the source.

Well, I have a 1mbps connection, and it was at 87kbps the last time I did the test, that doesn't necessarily mean your internet's stuffed.

Are you sure that it is an ISP problem, Adamus!? I'm not so sure,...

BionicLunchbox;4038324I have no router up i have no firewalls active I use a DSL connection...

That is the equivalent of leaving your keys in your car, on a busy city street. For months... No router, no firewall, Microsoft, and high speed internet = Doorstop.

I'm thinking it is a malware problem. (malicious software).

Probably designed to prevent the use of any other Internet browsing software, other than one that can be spied upon, or tracked. You could download Firefox, or Opera, and test this theory.

My recommendation, is to download and install the following programs. If you can,... A lot of malware actually blocks access to these tools...

Avast Anti-Virus Spybot Search & Destroy Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE And enable your firewall, or download a new one.

Then install, and run a program called "HiJackThis". Then post a log file, but DO NOT change anything, or "check" anything in HiJackthis. If you don't know what your doing, you could seriously harm your computer.

In this case, I would most likely run Avast or AVG from an Ubuntu Linux PC.

BionicLunchbox;4039417I tried installing spybot, didnt work,

Well, you have Spyware Doctor. So its not that big a deal.

Your Hijackthis log looks clean.

What is your ISP? Adamus appears to be right, it does appear to be a problem with the ISP.

Does Firefox work? If Firefox, or another web browser works, then it is almost certain that it is the ISP (restricted to web browsing).

If Firefox doesn't work, then it might still be something with your computer. Another way to check, is to add another PC, and see if you can use anything other than IE to browse the web.

Edit: Do you have a wireless card, or any other Network adapters, or a Dial-up modem? I've run into some problems where some applications tried to connect with the wrong adapter...

If I were you, I'd do a full pc format, and if the problem persists contact your ISP
