You're joking, right?

No... seriously.

(really--the answer is almost certainly no. Go to an Apple store and ask. I'm sure they're all too afraid of offending you to laugh out loud)

No, I only spent four years studying business. One of the things I distinctly remember learning is that it's bad business to give away a hot commodity, or even half of it.

Did your friend return a new iPod, or a used one? Did your friend have a gift card? Was his iPod busted and no longer manufactured?

Again I say: go to an Apple store and ask.

Yes on the condition that your iPod (4th gen?) is not working and does not have any scratches or dents. Also applying to the whole scratches and dents deal; if you bought your iPod less than a year ago, then you'd be able to return it with Apple's warranty plan.

The Apple Store has a thirty day return policy. If your 20G iPod is less than 30 days old, then you can do this.

Apple has no iPod ugrade policy. Meaning you can't turn in your old iPod and pay only part of the price to get an iPod video.

That's incorrect, the Apple warinty will only allow your iPod to be serviced. They will replace it with an iPod of the exact same model. Not one of the most current model.
