Ok, I've just been digging around in my computers' thousands of folders and found a folder called Temp. I'm guessing that means temporary. Its over 5GB and there are loads of IE7 things in it that I have no clue what they are and/or what they are doing there. Is it safe for me to delete this file? If I do, will it screw anything up?

Yes it's safe. You lose a bunch of saved passwords and some websites may load slightly longer, but it's nothing serious. It's pretty much where the cookies go and files you downloaded using "open" not "save".

Ok, well that stuff I can live without. Will I lose any important stuff?

There's definitely nothing in there you will regret deleting. At 5GB, that load of files could actually be bogging down your computer quite a bit.

And I would also give a thumbs up to CCleaner, it does a good job of clearing out anything like that.

Feel free to delete it. It's just a storage folder for files used during installation processes and internet browsing. It's just sad that these programs don't clean up their mess and leave all the files there.

Another question....sort of relating to the same topic. I want to speed up my computer and over the past few days I have done a defragment, error check, registry clean, and I'm about to delete that temp file. Are there any other things that I can do to speed it up a bit? How about, a XP re-install. I heard that that helps sometimes.

What exactly is in the TEMP file?

Is it where the "cached" things go?

Yes. It is where the "Cached" things go.

The TEMP file is folder designated for temporary use. Anything that gets put in there, is just going to be there long enough to use, and that is it.

For instance, when you open a ZIP file (Compessed Folder), it is actually extracted to the TEMP folder, and your actually viewing the files in the TEMP folder, and not those in the ZIP Archive.

The TEMP holds the movies you watched on the internet, and any music you played. Etc,...
