i have an asus p5b mother board....with x1900 512 gfx......2 gigs of ram.......2 160gig hd......the system was running perfectly until and an idiot spilt a coke and it seeped down into my computer case and it got on my components... i salvaged the video card and the memorie is fine...most of the coke swas spilt on my video card but it still works just fine.....but a little bit got on my motherboard........so when i go to turn it on the front led light comes on and then the computer just shots off.....i cleaned the parts up a little....and after that.... i turn the computer on i still get a green led on the motherboard....my fans will spin for about 3 seconds and then just stop...then start up again and stop........so is basically my motherboard fried....

It's either a dead mobo or a dead PSU.

Dry it with a hairdryer for a good half an hour to be sure its dry, then try again. Nothing connected when you dry it, just the board.

hey its funny u had this happen cuz i thought i was the only idiot that this could happen to, but now i see i'm not. lol j/k. anyways i had the samething happen when i tried to turn it back on it just shut off and then would try and restart. so i pulled the m/b and cleaned it with soap and water let it dry and nothing changed. well i figured that i would change the psu just to be safe and what do u know it fixed it. I would high suggest that u change ur psu and u never know it might be all better.

You have any other old PSU's you could hook up just for testing?

Was your computer powered up when this coke was spilt?

if i remember anything from chem, i dont think coke conducts electricity too well (probably why your graphics card is fine) the mobo could be fried though, im assuming you checked all the capacitors to make sure they werent blown right? i would take out the board, check it completely out, clean it the best you can, take out the processor, clean that, make sure there are no marks (as the result of a short) or cracks, and try it again

i would have to disagree with you. Coke is basically water so yeah its gonna conduct electrictiy (bad spelling i know). If the MOBO was powered up when it was spilt then that could be your problem. What I would do is take a qtip, a sponge, something. Get it damp and see if you can clean off all the coke that you missed. Dry off the mobo and see if that helps. Check the HDD, processor socket, and any plugs/slots it could have gotten into.
