the reason im asking is cos ive got my mobo back early and havent got any thermal stuff yet,and i wanna put it together and play as im a big kid!so is it needed or not
It is vital. Do not connect the fan without it.
thanks,i was told it helps but is not vital but im gonna go with what you have said!
There are 2 main reasons for using thermal paste or thermal tape. 1) Your fan-rib will not get a good connecting with the surface of the CPU, so it will be less able to direct heat away from your CPU, thus making irs lifespan shorter. 2) Metal VS cpu is a good way to scratch up or damage your cpu when removing / adding fan.
I forgot to mention that some stock fans that come with the CPU have thermal tape applied from the factory. This is not as efficient as, say Silver Arctic, but still does the trick.
the fan had the tape but the bios erased itself when i tried to flash the bios so i sent it back expecting weeks of waiting but it only took 3 days so was unprepared for it and i cleaned the residue off when i took it to pieces, thanks for the advice tho:)
