One of my freinds refered this card to me. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130220 I'm currently running a Geforce FX 5500, yes I know that this new card will easily outperform my other one but is it a good deal?

Its a pretty good deal, only $119 after mail in rebate, you can't beat that.

Yeah, the price is good for what you get. The 6600 itself is a pretty good card, it would be a significaint boost over your 5500. See if you could find the 256MB version for only a little more. But you probably won't find a 256 edition of the card that dosen't have a similar price.

It's a big improvement and a great deal, but can you run it? Make sure you have an AGP 8X slot.

While the card no doubt is good, I would highly recommend you to go for a 256MB version even if it costs a little more. Trust me, you might spend more now, but it's better in the long run. Trust me on this one.

That card will be like God compared to your old FX5500. Great buy. But like Chandu said if you can find the 256MB version get it. But if not that card is perfect.

Or if you can wait another week or two and save up another $70, you can buy a eVGA 6800GS will chew up and spit a 6600GT. Also the 6800GS can easily overclock past GT speeds and if your lucky up to ultra speeds, the 6800GS will also last a whole lot longer then the 6600GT will.

It's certainly a big step up from that FX5500. As others have said, grab the 256mb version if you can, but if you have some spare cash, consider a 6800 series card instead.
