Just last night, i got to bed, shut my monitor and computer off, picked up my comic and read for a bit when i started to get annoyed by something. Not knowing what it was, i got up and walked around for a bit, and noticed it was my monitor. It's hard to explain, but it can be explained as what you would imagine electrical sonic sounds would sound like.

"Screech" is the closest i can come. It's very sublimal, and you only notice it if it's really loud. It's normal from some applications such as the power plug for my 360, but i've never experienced it from my monitor. It went away as soon as i pulled the plug.

Yes, it's normal for monitors to sputter, squeak, crackle, and click - when it needs to tell you that it is dying, and just can't handle life anymore. In other words, be prepared to buy a new monitor when it dies. Don't bother attempting to fix it, unless you are a very experienced electrician, and read some tutorials on how to not kill yourself when fixing.

My old 17" CRT did that...I then replaced it with a 19" widescreen LCD

The "screeching" was going on intermittently for about 2 months...during then, the Monitor quality was degrading ever so slowly but, it was enough to notice.

It's now sitting on the floor...doing nothing (still works, for now). I'll guess i'll use it as an emergency back-up to use in case something happens to this one...

It's normal for a CRT monitor. It gets worse with age - and if you're still using a CRT monitor it's got to be fairly old.

Actually it's an LCD monitor from January 2008.

ya if its still under warranty then send it in. that fixes everything (well unless you fail at life and you are mean to your monitor:p ) but its ok lcd's do the same thing when they get old we just dont notice cause we usually replace them before they get their (and they have not been around long enough)

My monitor makes a couple of sounds and then falls to sleep. It's hanging on for now.

Do you notice the sound getting louder if your monitor is displaying a lot of white?
