Well, I've been saving up money for awhile buying/ selling hardware in order to earn enough funds for what I've been wanting. I got three insane deals on this hardware, cant wait to overclock it to hell and back.

What did you get the 960 for and where? I was thinking of going i7-875k, but since they dropped the 950 to $300 I'm thinking of going that route now. Probably get a P6X58D-E to go with. Only thing I'm really waiting for now is the 384 core GF104 GPU, impatiently waiting for. :???:

Quite a step up from what you had Kow, I'm sure you'll put your mad scientist OC skills to work on it.

Lets just say I got that 960 NIB for less than a 920 from newegg.

@ omen.

Why not get everything for your rig then buy the video card later? That P6X58D-E is a nice board, but you can generally find other stuff for a bit less thats as good (ie: look around for a rampage II or UD7)

Damn... thats not much more than i paid for my 860 back when i put this rig together.

@Kow, looks awesome dude! I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with it, that Rampage III is one sexy board.

How did you manage a deal like THAT at Newegg? Did they owe you for a screw up on an order or something?

Checked Fry's price on the 950 and it says $259.99, not $249, but still very good. Also says...

Limit 1 per Household. (when purchased between 09/03/2010 and 09/09/2010)

...so I guess I have a little more than just the weekend, but it does also say out of stock. I may call the store and see what's going on. I am tempted to start buying parts but I'd have nothing for a GPU unless I go for that deal on an EVGA GTS250 SC someone was willing to sell for $80 w/ no shipping which I could end up using as a PhysX card anyway.

This is all hitting me at a bad time though. I was asked a few days ago to cook my usual corn on the cob for my apt building's Labor Day BBQ. Then the guy that said he was going to do all the meat grilling, same guy that asked me to help, backed out and got all drunk and pissy when he couldn't turn his Safeway raincheck for 10lb worth of spare ribs into a 40lb order.

I just got done prepping over two dozen cobs of corn (I cook them in the husk), and 43lb of spare ribs and I have to get up at 5AM and put the rub on, then I'll be slaving over the grill all day slow cooking them so they'll be ready to just heat up Mon morn. To top it off one of my lazy neighbors down the hall brought a tray of chicken thighs over the other day and says he'll share them with me if I cook em up Sun night. Those are going in the crock pot, screw it.

I swear, you do one little dish for a community halfway decent and everyone suddenly thinks you're Gordon Ramsey. Maybe I'll have time after all the bellies are full. I'll make time tomorrow to call Fry's though, because that's the kind of deal I was looking for to get a build started. Love to find a deal like Kow got, but I doubt I'll be so lucky. Some things are going OK though. We finally got the new range we desperately needed for our community kitchen. Whoo Hoo, more cookin!

I learned a lot about grilling in the last few days. Pop Triva Labor Day Cookout Quiz: Regarding rib preparation, what does the term "fell" refer to?

Winner gets,... well, Grill Master bragging rights I guess. Sorry, I got nothing to give ya really. You guys already have more toys than I do.

Omen- Fell is the back membrane on a rack of ribs. (I am a Chef in Memphis TN., the BBQ capital of the South)

Also, I think Kow meant he bought his 960 cheaper than Newegg sells a 920.

Correct, as you already know, but you kind of kind of spoiled the whole concept of amateur grilling knowledge being a chef. Who'd have thought someone that calls himself Count Chocula would be a chef? :salute:

Ah well, my fault for not specifying amateurs only. :(
