Research before you buy. You could have bought a gateway FX series laptop thats a little over $1k here and comes with a 9800gtx-m, 500gb hard drive, and 1900x1200 screen. Definitely something I would buy if I wanted a gaming laptop.

Yeah, you can tell that to my mother:). She bought it for my B-day. =p
Dont complain then? You apparently didn't buy it so why are you complaining about not having hardware that didn't come out yet.

Well that's your own damn fault for letting your mother select it, isn't it?
Try not to bitch about something you get for free...

Sorry if i'm complaining to hard, but all i'm trying to do, is having a good time gaming, not a bad time. GTA SA with 8fps sucks!!!!
As has been said in this thread, graphics is NOT the only thing you pay for in a laptop. You have to take into account the CPU, RAM, display quality, features, etc. And unless you buy a real gaming laptop, graphics is usually lower priority.
Perhaps for top of the line graphics in a laptop you still need to pay a lot, but if you just want to play on medium and maybe some games on high, I think you can get a pretty good laptop for $800 and up.
MSI just recently released the GX630. It has a 9600M GT, but a slower and older processor. The more expensive GX620 would be better I think, it has a P8600. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have the nice red trim of the GX630.
I'm looking at the Asus N50 and Toshiba Satellite A355 right now. They carry the 9650M GT and Mobility Radeon 3650 GPUs respectively. And according to notebookcheck they're both class 2 cards, which should handle most modern games on at least medium settings.
Point is, if you do your research I don't think you have to pay a huge premium these days for decent graphics. My dad got the 14.1" vesion of the N50, the N80 and it plays BF2 fine.
Hope your next purchase turns out better.
The more I read of this thread the more I think your mom probably bought it intending for you to use it as a tool for school, rather than you acting like one, a tool that is. The old saying "No good deed goes unpunished" comes to mind here. It seems clear from your ignorance in the matter you would be better off with a work based laptop that you could actually learn something with were you to use it for it's intended purpose. I hope you're not still living at home, because your mother shouldn't have to tolerate that kind of attitude.
So does this mean I can't bitch about the laptop my ex-girlfriend gave me for free then either? It's only got a 7400M in it. *sniff* :p
LOL. I'm actually wondering whether or not to give you rep points for that. ;)
