To all the people in the UK, what insurance company would you recommend for laptop insurance? Me and my mom are looking around, but we need to find out just how reputable these companies are.

I just don't wanna get scammed s'all.

People from the UK only, please, for obvious reasons.

Why not just add the laptop to your home owners insurance policy?

It's what I did when I got my laptop.

That's what I was going to suggest. I'm not sure whether or not it would be covered if you roam about with it, but if you're only going to be using it at home then you may as well.

Alternatively, Insure and Go offer computer insurance, and so do various other companies. The retailer you bought it from may have something as well, as may the manufacturer (Acer is one company that I know for a fact offer insurance for their laptops, so I would imagine that others do). As with any other kind of insurance, I'm afraid, at the end of the day you're best off shopping around. Which takes time, but saves dimes.

What companies have you considered?

So would that cover electrical/mechanical issues?

And we'd just have to take it out with the travel insurance when we went away with it?

We've considered Mobiles4U and CompuCover.

It would probably only cover phyisical damage (that can been seen).
