Your CPU and 1gb of ram is fine... but the video card will NOT play the newest games well. Whats more, even a 9800pro wont give you very much better results... you will need at least a 6600gt (roughly $140) to run BF2, HL2, ect in good resolutions with effects... but the good news is that a 6600gt isnt much more expensive than the 9800pro u looked at. There will also be a 7800GT, and 7800pro coming out soon for about the same cost.

well technically it might not end up being "named" pro, i just used it to illustrate a point that htese will be 3 versions.... high: 7800gtx mid: 7800gt low: 7800 ???

But the 7800 won't be released in an AGP version, and he has an AGP system. A card from the 6800 series is the best he can do.

oh... that changes things. in that case he has to either use a 6800 family card or wait even longer for the X900 which WILL have AGP versions... but thats a couple months off.

i think if they make different versions of the 7800, the lowest will be 7800 XT, since the normal low end ones where always had the XT after it, Example Geforce 5900 Ultra - high end Geforce 5900 XT - low end

that is very possible... but since he has an AGP he needs a ATI X900 series card... but who knows when they will have a mid/low grade or what it will be called.... or even if it will be called a X900 at all.
