I have a problem with one of my computers: I installed Fedora Core 2 Red Hat Linux. When I enter the command to shutdown, I see these lines on the screen:

Shutdown: hda Power down

The rest of the computer has still power and won't shutdown. Before I installed Linux, I had Windows 2000 on that computer and I didn't have that problem.

When I exit Redhat 9.0 I get 10-20 lines of text showing services being stopped before I have to manually shut down by power button.

I would search some Linux comunitees, there arnt many linux geezers here.

'[+Glasius+']When I exit Redhat 9.0 I get 10-20 lines of text showing services being stopped before I have to manually shut down by power button.

That's what I wanted to say. But I want to know if there is a way to shutdown the computer completely using a script or a special configuration.

Perhaps there is limited support for your motherboard?

What command did you use to shutdown? Any error messages posted to "dmesg"?

i have the same thing with mandrake 10 but i assumed its normal as nothing is coming up red during the shutdown, it might just be that linux doesnt support soft off yet,

No, it does. Actually, I had problems with FC2 as well, even on an OEM (Compaq) box.....

Peeping TomPerhaps there is limited support for your motherboard?
I don't think so. I have the newest version installed. I once used SuSE Linux 8.1 on that computer and it worked just fine as it should.
What command did you use to shutdown? Any error messages posted to "dmesg"?

"shutdown -h now"

No error messages
