Linux will not boot on my system. I have tried many many times and it never works. It usually gives me some kind of error saying that the file is incorrect or something like that. please help me as I would like to start using linux and dont want to have to do a dual partition.
Did it ever boot? what files? Did you remove anything in the last boot? what version of linux?
It never did boot. I tried to boot the image file if thats what you mean. and i tried knoppix, phlak, mandrake, and a few others that I dont know the name of.
How old is the Linux version and how old is your hardware? It's possible, that the / partition is to big. In that case you need a small boot-partition.
where would I find a small boot-partition?
You can choose the partiitions in the setup. An example from my harddisk:
hda1: /boot 50MB hda2: / 18.95GB hda3: swap 1GB
I would rather it just booted from a cd.
What boot manager are you using - LILO or GRUB? Where does it stop during the bootup process? I'm assuming you have this on a seperate partition ....
I want to boot it from a cd without installing it on my computer. I dont want to have to do anything with a partition.
Did you setup your computer to boot from the CD-ROM?
It usually gives me some kind of error saying that the file is incorrect
