OMG...this card eats up everything & still hungers for more! It currently idles at 42 degrees & haven't seen it go above 80 degrees while gaming.<3 overclocking, here I come (although I doubt it will need it...lol)

I just installed a Zalman VF3000F on the 480& holy sheep shit! It idles at 33 degrees & wouldn't go over 56 degrees after an hour of solid gaming (BFBC2). I am going to push this even further. Insane cooler, wow.

- I just benched with Crysis & I had 98% gpu usage & it never went above 60 degrees. I love this cooler!

Now that the 500 series with vapor chamber coolers are out, no matter what aftermarket cooler is fitted to a 400 series card, it still looks obsolete, and SLI with that massive a cooler is difficult if possible at all.

Nice. I've been considering something like that for my 470, mine already has Palit's dual fan cooler on it which is much better (and quieter) than the reference design, but i would still like my load temps lower so i could OC higher.

What clock speeds do you have it at?

I am going to wait for the AS5 on the gpu to cure before I push it any further, but as you can see, the load temp during Kombustor didn't go above 78 degrees. ( 36906632.jpg

& Omen...obsolete? I didn't pay anywhere near new prices for the 480(almost 100 less than the 570) & the 480 will oc higher than a 570 & keep way cooler now with the Zalman on it. btw..how's that 250 doing? lmao! Sorry, dude, but this 480 is a cool monster! No need for sli.

250 runs a striaght 100 watts maxxed out, is has it's advantages and hasn't skipped a beat. "2200" FPS in UT99 facing a wall. (openGL) And if you made a test the same way would be cool. "Unreal" OR UT99 maxxed out using compresssed textures, and openGL. you need the files for that third party openGL,,, awesome.)

LOL. Try loading up Metro 2033, STALKER, or BF Bad Company 2 and see what it does for proper comparison against a 480.

Awesome clocks! Did you have to modify anything to get the 1.125v? My 470 is limited to 1.087v.

78 is pretty low for Kombustor. My 470 is hitting the 90s under it (mid 80s in game) with these settings:

Yes, the coolers and toasty architecture of the 400s is outdated. The 500 series pretty much proved both obsolete and spells EOL for the 400s. Bad enough everything's dual slot now, but to add a whopper cooler like that is just a step WAY backwards.

Regarding SLI, it's a matter of what res you play at, what settings you use, and whether you want to get crazy and run Fraps for HD vids and what not. I plan to do that eventually.

As for my 250, I've yet to see a game it can't handle including Metro 2033 and Crysis on as high a settings as I prefer to use. The highest settings in Metro & Crysis don't actually look as good due to all the blur and wash the DOF, Motion Blur and Ambient Occlusion adds.

As I've said before, I may even use this 250 until the 28nm chips are out. It would mean playing at 1280x720 vs the native 1920x1080 on the TV I plan to get soon, but thats a very doable temp solution.

I wouldn't get a 570 if I bought now, I'd get a 580, but now that I have a very capable get me by card that only ran $70, I can afford to wait until the price drops. By then there might be info trickling out on whether the 28nm chips will be worth waiting for.

Anyways, I wasn't trying to jerk your chain, just stating my opinion. That said, I see nothing laughable about the 250, it's still regarded as one of the best GPUs as far as FPS per dollar, and when the choices are hot & loud (or massive w/ addon), vs expensive, I see it as a good alternative to jumping on a bandwagon I may not end up happy with.

I play at 1920*1200. I also always use vsync(60fps locked). This out-dated & obsolete(wtf?) is the second fastest nvidia card. If you look at STOCK benchmarks, the 570 & the 480 are neck & neck on almost every test. With more memory and 384bit memory interface. Clock for clock the 480 is the faster card. I just about spit my drink out when I read your post, coming from a gts250(Which is a re-branded 8800gts) user. I didn't mean to sound like a jerk......wait a minute....yes I did! I totally meant that! Holy shit...this card is a beast. It makes my e-peen ginormous! (seriously j/k)

Doc...I just used Afterburner to unlock the voltage. I was shocked that the temps were where they stayed with the voltage maxed out.
