Well, I have been trying to use google to find a piece of software I'm looking for.

What I need is a program that will allow me to stream (but not actually transfer) music from one computer to the other over my home network.

Preferably, it would be free, but I wouldn't mind shelling out a few dollars if need be.

Any ideas?

I believe SlimServer does what you're looking for. It's designed as the backend for Slim Devices' Suqeezebox, but does have a facility for setting up a stream that can be accessed from a software player like foobar.

aha! found a product called "pirate-radio" (it's legit as far as i can tell.) that lets you create a web based radio station. best of all, it's optimized for dial-up, so broadband will be doubley effective! http://radio.about.com/cs/pirateradio/gr/pirateradio.htm thats a review on it. (please please please delete my post if i somehow failed to see it as being illegal software, i highly doubt it is but...)
