Apple wouldn't want to make one that runs slower.

However some fancy new particle effect, or transparency and shadows, may require a good GPU. Something thrown in to make the MacOS look good. Would help lagging sells, as most consumers would see the nice look, and not the performance ratio. It could be little as a slight tweak to the transparencies, or optimizing them for "Hardware" only.

yeah i guess that makes sense =\

they should really add an option to turn some things off if it's a drag on lower systems though.

CorTi'd think Apple wouldn't want to make an OS that runs slower than it's predecessors. but watching demo's of tiger on apple.com i don't see how it needs a better video card :clueless:

It is only some of the special graphical effects with certain widgets that won't be supported by lesser graphics cards. Hardly something to worry about.

Interesting... What I want to know is how much those widgets affect performance. I expect it is "Hardly something to worry about.", but I can't be sure...

ah, i see.

and monster, watching the preview (click the 'play here' link in the image) it looks like it's bassicly expose (F9 in OSX) but with apps over it. so i wouldn't think thered be much of a drag on performance.
