Sgt. D. Pilla;4990700Forgive me, but I dont see the attraction to older, uglier keyboards like that... I rather a keyboard where I can press the key anwhere, and it types - rather then those where if you press it on the edge, it gets stuck (Doesn't make for wicked gaming)
The attraction is that they're a billion times sturdier and have the best tactile response, hands down. And at 5 pounds for the Model M, they're not going to slide all over your desk either. Function > form.
Although backlit keys would be nice. =p
Thanks for all the recommendations so far. I think I'm going to sell my G15 and save a bit more and go all-out on one of those Das keyboards. Now, original or unmarked? :D
Unmarked. Its what a badass would do.
I have 2 used model M keyboards. I found them in my school's engineering building free stuff bin. The manufacture dates are around 1990. I would look into selling you one if you are interested. It will take me a few weeks to get one from home though.
I have a 3rd that I am using right now. The model M is without a doubt the best keyboard I have ever used.
Wow, that's pretty groovy. One man's trash, etc.
Shoot me a PM or email and we'll see what we can do.

Yeah, same here. I know lots of people who do like that loud click and stiff feel of the keys when typing though. I much prefer the awesome laptop style dead silent keys of my Apple Aluminum keyboard though. If the aluminum keyboard had back-lit keys it would be perfect IMO.
It shouldn't be stiff, it's just longer key travel.
If it's stiff, it's probably full of 30 years worth of fluff.
Mines not stiff at all, it's just that you get a nice bit of tactile feedback when the keys are depressed. Maybe the "click" makes people think they are working harder to press the key. Dunno.
Zamee Although backlit keys would be nice. =p
Heh. Half the point of the model M is that they are so easy to touchtype on that you don't NEED to look at the keys. :)
I think the steelseries 7g is a mechanical one as well. Information - SteelSeries
I just don't think it clicks, but is heavy and expensive as hell.
Sorry to bring back a week old thread. But I found something that might interest you zam. Das Keyboard III Professional - Mechanical Keyboard at Xoxide!
That's a very tasty price indeed. I think I'll order it tomorrow after I sell some more blood plasma. =p
