Microsoft have opened up Vista beta 2 to gain public feedback:

Windows users can now get their hands on a test version of Vista, Microsoft's new operating system. The software giant is letting anyone download or order a beta, or trial, version of the program. Those installing Vista will be encouraged to send in feedback about their experiences with the pre-release program. The final version of Vista for home users is due to be released in January 2007. Those registering for the test version will get two versions of the software - beta 2 and release candidate 1. The beta is available now and the other copy will be released later in 2006. Microsoft is limiting the numbers of registrations but has not said what when it will stop taking applications. Before now Microsoft has only let small numbers of Windows developers play around with early editions. The trial software is also aimed at developers but also includes other technology professionals as well as home users happy with installing software and troubleshooting problems on their PC.

You can get it by clicking here, but this beta is only open for a limited time.

Note:This is beta code and should not be used in a production environment or on a main machine in the home. Beta 2 is intended for developers, IT professionals and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of Windows Vista. Before you decide to use Beta 2, you should feel comfortable with installing operating systems, updating drivers, and general PC troubleshooting. Some risks of using beta operating systems include hardware and software incompatibility and system instability. If you have concerns about installing this beta software on your computer, we encourage you to obtain the final release version of Windows Vista when it is available in 2007.

Hmmm... is the "Intel (R) System Management BIOS Driver" important? Apparently there isn't the one that I need for Vista. If I download this I'll probably put it on my main machine, but not the families. My only concerns are, will I have IE7 and iTunes? That's really all I use.

Sounds important to me, it has 'BIOS' in it and 'Intel'.
