A night and day difference. I play Fh mod for BF1942. The map Prokhorovka used to take forever to load. By switching to 1024MB the map loads 5x faster than it used to and gameplay is much smoother.

The more RAM the more of the games files can be loaded into fast memory instead of the game having to retrieve needed info from the slow HDD. This reduces waiting or lag as the game doesnt have to stop and retrieve data as often. Also you didnt not mention your OS so Im assuming you have WinXP or Win 2000. Both love as much memory as you can throw at them.

2gigs is overkill you really dont need that much too often. And yes you would see a big differnce with an extra 512mb. You really need 1gig of ram these days for gaming.

HL2, Doom3, UT2K4, FarCry, all these next generation games tho can be played on 512, will play better with 1gig, IMO its worth it.

Probably, you should REALLY consider ditching the celeron and getting just a plain old P4... There not that expensive anymore...
