I have a logitech G5, and I'm using just the wood on my desk as a surface for it, but it gets screwed up a lot. I tried using cheap crappy pads but they suck and are too small. I REALLY need to get a new surface, should I get something like a razer mousepad?
If your using an optical mouse then your problem is with having a surface thats reflective (shiny) Get a fabric mousepad instead of a plastic covered one and it will work fine. If you want to confirm this is the problem you can use the mouse on a sheet of paper or something non reflective and it will work.

Its a problem with your mouse and not the surfact, the G5 is the same as the G7, only the G5 is corded, and has a higher friction point... Timber Vaneer (basically any timber desk with non gloss finish) is what these mice are designed and tested on, in other words, you dont need a mouse pad, and besides, they are a proper lazer, not these stupid rip off LED mice, the 2000DPI lazer's work on glass the same as they work on timber.
I love my old Allsop rubber based cloth finish pad that is made for optical mice. It has a nice speckled charcoal grey, black and white raindrop pattern on it and the surface is tough and has lasted years.
