Media Centre is included with the Operating System.

If you wanted it you'd need to buy Windows XP Medre Center edition. You can't buy Media Centre seperately.

Media Centre is also included in some of the versions of Widnows Vista. eg, Home Premium and Ultimate.

Sorry, as far as I know a new OS is your only legal way of getting your hands on it.

Aye, he either needs the Media Center edition of Windows XP, or he needs Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate.

I'm actually interested in why does he want it?

It's not like it gives any real features which third party apps are better at.

True, he could install something like MediaPortal which does the same thing.
