Is there a better solution which doesn't cost as much?
That looks pretty good. You may want to look at a better psu (Antec, Seasonic, FSP/Fortron, OCZ, etc). The Antec case MG42 suggested has a good psu with it (also an Antec)
You could stick with single core (3700+) and save some money. But that price for the 4400+ is great. It was twice that much just a few days ago as well as when I bought mine.
On the video card, you'll probably need at least £100 for a good one. It's well worth waiting until you have the money.
These would be the cheapest cards I would even consider getting for a good gaming rig: (also from ocuk)
Nvidia: Leadtek GeForce 7600 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-080-LT) Price: £99.95 (£117.44 w/ VAT)
ATI: Sapphire X1600 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-114-SP) Price: £74.95 (£88.07 w/ VAT)
I would wait though and save up for one of these (or even better):
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO) Price: £139.95 (£164.44 w/ VAT)
BFG GeForce 7900 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-018-BG) Price: £156.95 (£184.42 w/ VAT)
Im going to go for the setup above with a differant case, though im having trouble finding one with a good PSU, I like the Thermaltake VB1000BWS Soprano SuperMidi Tower, but it doesn't come with a PSU and the brands you sugested would cause me to go over budget. So im now looking for a case with PSU for under £60 (inc VAT), Also i would prefer one with a window in the side because the motherboard looks nice:).
As for the graphics card i will probably have to weight till the begining of end of September before i can afford a good graphics card.
