just bought a new graphics card today to put on to my good old windows ME computor. Now im no expert here but I have thought I had enough brains to click in a graphics card, obviously not. Im searching for my AGP slot which the comp store assistant told me every comp has so dont worry about it, it will work yap yap yap . I have 3 PCI slots 2 of them being used for cable modem, but it looks as though Im missing an AGP slot. The instruction manual tells me its a brownish color, easily recognisable, and there is a suspiciously brown slot next to the PCI slots but its far to small for the card, even smaller than the PCI slots themselves.

I was wondering if I need some sort of adapter to put in here, or wheather im being very stupid and looking for something that doesnt exist on my rig at all! Anyone???

how much does it not fit by? you may haved missed the clip that opens up and holds the card down... look around that brown mystery slot for a clip... open it up and pop it in and push it down tight....

also, the agp slot is offset from the pci slots, and usually towards the center of the board, above the pci slots-if you have a tower.

It should look like this attachment.php?attachmentid=7554&stc=1 Also the person who sold it to you doesn't know what he's talking about not all computers have AGP slots.

a 1 ghz computer *should* have one but it is borderline. Some boards that old did not.

If all fails consider upping your motherboard &/or CPU. If it is a non-namebrand computer, you should be able to get a pair that work in your computer. Even if you only got an old MB that will run your new video card, it will mean that your investment in the card will last you longer. So it would be better than exchanging for a PCI video card that you throw away when you upgrade your machine next year.

However there are PCI video cards out there still and that is a route you can go. It is just slightly slower will obsolete faster.
