I have a little white box in the top-left corner of my screen that starts up when the computer boot and I don't know what it is. Wondering if it some sort of virus/key logger. I can't right click it or anything else. I have run an avast boot scan(found nothing), spybot, ad aware and windows defender. I don't know what it is and none of my processes seem to be weird.

any help is appreciated.

EDIT: it is not from my wallpaper, theme or color scheme. It is not there on fullscreen apps and my mouse goes over it

You're sure it isn't a part of that skin/theme you installed?

It's not a virus, or a keylogger, or anything dangerous, its more then likely just some part of a startup process such as steam (only its not steam)

Try running 'msconifg' from the "Start -> Run" box. MSConfig will give you a list of everything that is loading at boot.

Then right-click the Taskbar, and select "Task Manager", or press "Ctrl-Shift-Esc".

You could try shutting down each of those programs, until the box disappears. Then just disable it from running at boot.

My guess is that it is a bad Widget/Gadget/Applet that is not showing up.

It could just be me but it looks like that box you used to get after you entered the cheat on minesweeper.

Check your theme, and try having a look at any widgets or similar things you have tried to use.

Would i be correct that you have a ATI graphics card and have the ATI Catalyst taskbar/tray (beside the clock) shortcut running? There should be a little ATI icon there if it is.

I get that same little white box with the CCC taskbar shortcut running, as soon as i close it, its gone.

HAHA! Another reason why I don't like ATI...."Lets have random white boxes on peoples screens to annoy the hell out of them"

It doesn't show up while in game or if you have something open fullscreen, its only on the desktop with nothing else open. Just exit the tray program and its gone.

Its only a issue with the 8.1 drivers as far as i know.
