After downloading Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and not being able to play it at medium settings smoothly (yeah I know, that's sad) I decided NOW is the time to get a new computer. A while back ,my aunt was laid off from work and when this happened, her company said that as a bonus, she could buy a computer and they would reimburse her for $1000 of the cost. So my question to you guys is, What is a good computer out there under $1000. Since her company is only going to pay for a name brand computer (acer,Hp,Gateway, etc.) I need to know if there is a good pre-built PC that can play most current games such as Call Of Duty 4, Crysis, Supreme Commander, and other upcoming titles. I was looking at Bestbuy.com and found a Decent Gateway Computer that can handle a lot of games as it is.

Obviously, I will be upgrading the Video-card not long after I get the computer. Here are ones' I'm looking at. (BTW: I'd like the whole package if possible such as monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc)

One possibility: Gateway - Q6600 Desktop - GT5628 Another Possibility:HP a6238x Desktop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E4500, 22" LCD Monitor, 3-in-1 Printer & Accessories Those two look like the best bang for the buck there. But if you know a way better computer or a better source, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks, I appreciate it. :D

If you really had to get one of those that you said, go with the Gateway. But you're best bet is to go with what SteelSabre said.

If money is an issue, I'd suggest making your own computer; you save A BUNDLE that way. Even though your thread title says "pre-built." Just a thought.

As I said in my first post, I HAVE to go name-brand I.E. No gaming brands. I know it's horrible but what can I do? :p

If you plan to upgrade the video card yourself then go with the Gateway, because that 8500GT won't play shit. What were you planning to upgrade it to?

Unless it's stipulated as part of the agreement with your aunt the company shouldn't have a say in what brand it's from as long as it's a computer.

I think it's because the company has to deal with the computer company or something, I'm not exactly sure. Whatever the reason, it's dumb and doesn't make sense. :p
