I'm going to to be upgrading the video card in my older computer today, but I'm not too sure what to buy. I have $150 to spend, and I basically just want to be able to get the best card my system can handle. I'll be playing mostly older games - i'm not worried about doom3 halflife2 or farcry.

My system specs:

Dell Dimension 4300 256 megs RAM 160 gig HD Pentium 4 1.7 ghz

These are teh two I had in mind, but I'm not sure if they would be compatible or not...I really don't know what the difference is between 2x 4x and 8x AGP is... ATI RADEON 9550 256MB DDR AGP PNY - GeForce FX 5700 LE Optima Graphics Card

here is a 256mb 9600. It it is a gread card from what i have read and fits well below your limit of $150:D. Then you can get 512mb of ram and still spend less than $150. here is 512mb of pc2700(probably what you have in your comp) now if you want to spend the $150 all on a video card you can get this 9600XT 256mb for $156(with shipping) You can get $6 more dollars together i assume:lookaround:.

yeah, you will defently need some more RAM, 256 is NOT good for gaming at all, even 512MBs of RAM can bottle neck your system from what ive heard, so buying a 512MB and putting it with your 256MB, then you'll be fine... btw, i have the Radeon 9600XT 256MBs and its a great card, very reliable and i havent had any probs with it yet at all, even though it doesnt work to its full potential coz i have a crap 1.7ghz computer, with 1.2GBs of pc-133 sdram (VERY slow)
