Well i just came into ~$350 and am wanting to upgrade my video card. I currently have an XFX GeForce 7800GT. I see 2 options. 1) Buy another 7800GT for SLI.
2) Buy an XFX GeFore 7950GT for only $30 more.
My concern is not of price (As long as it's not over $400), but of performance. Which one do you think will give the best performance?
You can compare them at http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/graphics/charts.html?modelx=33&model1=581&model2=526&chart=224 Hope this helps, though i have a 7800gt also, i think i would go for the SLI option myself, i used to have 6600gt in SLI and it was great. In fact i saw no improvement moving to a single more powerful card.
SLI. Performance will be on par or above the 7950GT. I looked into this option a couple months ago, and that 7950GT does not make sense in this context, particularly with G80 looming on the horizon.
Thanks UNDIESRULES for the nice chart. That clears everything up. Looks like SLI for me. The 7950 option does seem a little dumb, seing as how my next upgrade will not be another g70 series.
I have the 7600 cards running in sli. No reason to get the single card at this time. Good choice, you will see a difference for sure.
