I just bought Mirror's Edge and its awesome. But I'm thinking of buying a second video card dedicated to physics. I was wondering if its possible to sli my 8800GT with a 9600GT. If it's not possible, could you guys recommend me a cheap card that would work as a physics card?

Why not buy an 8800GT and go SLI? It'd be the best option I think. There's no point buying a piece of crap card and using it for PhysX, because that won't show any gains, and judging from the fact that you want a cheap card, you don't have the money to buy a better card and use the 8800 for PhysX

No, it's not possible. SLi'ing requires two of the same card. So a 8800GT can't be SLI'd with a 9600GT. So double up on the 8800GT you have, get a SLi bracket, set it up, and there you go.

Or you could just pop both cards in and use either one for physx.

(Going with my understanding of it, SLI is not required for physx.)

It's not, but what I'm saying is the lowest card he'd want to get for PhysX would be something like an 8600GT anyway, so he might as well go SLI.

Get a Physx card that is designed to do just that and have two sli'd 8600's. I have an Ageia physx card along with SLi'd 8800 Ultras that my friend gave me (he upgraded to some 9 series card) and that setup blows through anything. I mean, yeah, it's not gonna bbqhax cyrsis at max everything, but it makes eve online run smooth when I'm in a 50+ ship fleet. It's to bad I don't use it that much...lol. Laptops....ftw.

You'd probably get increased performance if you just ran the Ultras...

I got increased performance with the ultras, but with the physx card, I can easily handle shit loads of drones, missiles, guns firing, and explosions.

See my original idea was to get another 8800gt and sli that, but i cant seem to find them anywhere anymore. It's almost like they don't even sell them anymore. And whenever I do see one, it's from some store I've never heard of and they're really expensive.

Does anyone know if a 9800GT will work in SLI with an 8800GT? As I understand it they're the same card but I don't know if they'll work in SLI? That would solve your problem getting a second 8800GT. That said, if you're in the USA NewEgg still stock them I believe.
