Problem: mainly the problem is that when i start up, and log into my account on the computer, instead of everything starting up normal, i am stuck looking at my desktop and there is no start bar at the bottom of the screen and no icons.....
this happened after my bro was playing NBA live 2005 and exited it, and logged off, and i logged into mine and it was like this, the only way i can get on the internet now is thanks to Windows Task Manager.
Have you tried system restore?
Have you scanned for spyware/adware and virus programs?
the internet is skynet
Basicly at this point i can't because the only thing that works is Windows Task Manager, and it lets me open up firefox but like nothing else
unless some one could help me use Windows task manager to opeb other things like Control Panel or My computer so i can run ad-aware or something....
Do you have a rescue disk for your anti-virus software handy? If so, boot from that and run the emergency repair program.
Sounds like 'explorer.exe' isn't starting.
Can you get to Task Manager via Ctrl+Alt+Del? If so, then start the task 'explorer.exe'.

Click "New Task" then "Browse"
Go to "My Computer" - "C Drive" - "Program Files" E.g AVPersonal

thats correct. explorer is not starting.
do what he said. also from the taskmanager you can also run "msconfig" under general tab make sure that its at normal startup. go to services tab and make sure you have checked all the box for services. then check the box where it says hide all microsoft services. then uncheck all of them. let us whats going then. that should start the explorer. another thing to do is doing a windows update. that should also take care of starting up explorer problem
