What is IRC? Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a form of instant communication over the Internet. It is mainly designed for group (one-to-many) communication in discussion forums called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication. How is IRC different to the forums? Unlike the forums, IRC is an environment which caters towards instantaneous responses. This means when you say something, people will respond to you much more quickly than in a forum. HOWEVER, this means that people need to be in the channel for a response to occur! So, WE WANT YOU to come and join in on the fun For Java chat: Simplicity at it's best. All you need to do once you enter the channel is change your nick to who you are. So for example, I'd change my name to Shulzi for obvious reasons by typing Code:/nick rah For IRC Client: Depending on which IRC client you use, there are different methods. However, once you get yourself into the status window for the first time, you need to decide on a nickname. To do this, type Code:/nick ActualnicknameSo for example, I'd change my name to Shulzi for obvious reasons by typing Code:/nick Shulzi Now once you've got that out of the way, you need to connect to the server. To do so, type Code:/server Once you've connected to the server (a whole lotta writing will flood across the screen), type Code:/join #gsarchivesand you're in! Enjoy. While this may seem a bit troublesome, there are easier methods to achieve this depending on your IRC client. This is just a general method for whatever IRC client you use. And that's it! Got any problems, come msg me on IRC!
