G'day guys i feel like building up a second computer, this build probably wont happen till maybe November, but i love a good bit of research so i shall commence on that asap

I really kinda wanted to go all out on this new rig, get a good overclock going on everything, water cooling, sli graphics, something quite beasty.

My price range is going to sit around $2500 give or take

My first plans was to build an i7 rig, I have built 2 computers using intel and nvidia cards so probably stick to that combo but i am not ruleing out amd or ati.

Does amd have a chip to hold its own against the i7 or will they by the end of this year?

Im not to sure where to start looking what i have seen so far....

CPU Intel Core i7-920

Motherboards XFX X58i Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Asus RAMPAGE II Asus P6T-DELUXE-V2

Ram Corsair DDR3 6GB PC-15000/1866Mhz Maybe OCZ Blade 16000 (bit pricey though)

PSU Thermaltake Tough Power 1200W

Haven't decided on GPU or water cooling kit I dont have a clue where to start there

Anyway going to do some searching see what else i can find/.

If you guys could recomend me some good hardware that would be great, even new hardware thats going to be released around the end of the year.

Thanks in advance

But do you NEEEEEED it?

It's what I ask myself whenever I get excited about wanting to buy something.

What's the main purpose of this rig? From your sli graphics comment I gather it's for gaming.

Because for 2500 you can get a lot.

Do i need it ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh not really haha

But its my hobby, it entertains me, gives me things to do and apart from gym all i do is stuff around with computers. I don't spend alot of money very often so i do weigh up all the pros and cons :)

Yeah it will be mainly used for gaming, but I'm also studying Interactive Digital Media course so shall be used for 3Ds Max, adobe and all that jazz

I'd suggest waiting until October at least when the new video cards come out and we know how they perform. Until then its hard to suggest anything since everything will most likely change quite a bit. Radeon 5890x4 anyone?

So you think closer to the end of this year where going to have a buffet of new hardware coming in for the x-mas season

He said his build is going to be bought around November kow, which is past October. But yes around that time the new series of ATI cards will be release (the 5000 series) which is going to be exiting =p

I haven't heard of anything about a '5890X4', that sure would be kick ass but it would be kicking your ass with the money you'd be spending on it and set you down a couple hundred dollars :p

Thats because nobody knows a bout the 5890x4. I know someone under a NDA with ATI thats been testing one and they're a BEAST (but that was never ever said due to legal reasons <.< )

If you're going to wait for November I wouldn't think that i7 would be a very good option anymore. Definitely Lynnfield chips will offer the same overclockability with DDR2 memory, a cheaper chipset, and greater turboboost for games, or i9, with more cache.

That's like asking if the rich guy needs a Ferrari. Sure, since computers are anything but an investment, it would probably be better to put the money into savings or invest it in something, but that's beside the point.

Anyways, like the others have said, it'd probably be a good idea to wait till the end of the year, when the new beasts come out. Just cross your fingers and hope they don't postpone the GPU's 3-6 months again.
