I received my new hard drive in the mail last few days, and I dont know what to do with it now. Any professional help with restarting from new and empty would be appreciated. If you ask if I have a Resource CD, I do. But nothing helps it. My hard drive is a 320GB ram. Computer specs; 512 MB memory, Windows XP, Dell. I dont know what else to state... Im new to reinstalling everything.

Do you know if its SATA or IDE? You can probaly just plugin your new HDD where it fits, And your operating system will automatically recognize it. If you need to reinstall, Reinstalling is pretty simple, There's onscreen instructions helping you step-to-step. (Put CD in tray, boot from CD, install)

Its an SATA, and I did try reinstalling from the Resource CD but the CD only gave me 6 options; 2 Graphic Tests options, 2 diskette XGEN option, and Reboot to DOS and Exit. My parents friend did put the HDD in where it fits, just like the previous HDD was placed. But when I start up my computer, it says Reboot F1, but nothing happens.

Ah, If you boot a "Windows XP/Vista/Me/98/95/NT Recovery CD" you should be able to reinstall with on-screen instructions. I assume the Resource CD your talking about came with the HDD, And its probaly drivers. You might need the drivers from that CD when installing.

Depending on your country laws, You might be able to download one. AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A LEGAL KEY IT WILL WORK! Those are usually stuck on your computer, You could always contact Dell or Microsoft. They might be able to fix the problem of lacking a CD

This is just a recovery CD right? Not a actual Windows Install CD?

If its just a dell recovery disk, it probably won't let you install it on a new hard drive. You didn't receive a install CD with your dell? I got one with both my dells....
