word on the streets is that the new iMacs coming this august is going to have the option for intel's new Core 2 Quad cpu, has anyone else heard anything on the hardware for the new iMacs coming up other then keyboard??

I haven't heard anything, but i wouldn't be surprised if they did. It would probably only be on the top of the line model though.

One thing i have heard are rumors that its going to be in a slightly thinner brushed aluminum case, with the 17" possibly being discontinued.

The discontinuation of the 17" size has been a rumor for a while now.

It all depends on the processor situation in August. At this point in time it wouldn't make sense to offer a quad core iMac because it would make it compete directly with the Mac Pro. If the iMac is to get a quad core, then it would seem likely that the Mac Pro would also get a newer, faster processor (I have no idea what processor that would be, they've already crammed eight cores into the current alliteration. Perhaps Leopard will support sixteen cores?)
