Hey all, now i have just build my new pc, and while playing games and browsing the net etc, the whole system (XP) goes a bit strange then the system restarts.... i checked temps my cpu is around 45, idle, Mobo is 45 also. could it be a overheat problem? Also, one of my ATI Driver progs crashed once, and this cause the system to restart... aswell so what could it be? "NOTE" i have 5 fans in the case 1 x 120mm (UV blue) 3 x 80mm (blue & red) 1 x Heatsink fan. "Specifications" ASUS P5K Deluxe (MOBO) ASUS silent square pro (Heatsink) Intel core 2 duo Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz 4Gb of DDR2 OCZ RAM ATI-HD2600PRO (512MB) HIPER 730 WATT PSU BIOS Is 0501 (Latest) :smokin: Is there a feature in bios from shutting down the system if it get's to hot? or shall i add more thermal paste? :uhm: ps is it normal for XP to take 20 bars (those start up bars) to load on those types of specs? lol it's just weird tho... never had this prob before.. cheers

I'm thinking no. My daughter's E2140 (slowest Conroe you can get) with 1gb of value ram starts after about 3-5 bars. :uhm:

Your idle temp seems a little high. What's the load temp? Maybe try applying a little bit thicker layer of thermal paste if you think you may have been too thin before.

interesting..... can (XP) be the cause of this lack of booting time? or is it just hardware related.... lol just saying this now... my P4 boots faster then that.... the hell is going on...

Yea, the paste i used, came with the heatsink... not alot.. and last time i checked.. it was dry.... and way thin... (it got boiled by the looks of it) i'll have to get more then... as for load temps? around 57 to 62...

That does seem a tad high as well.

(This is all assuming your restarts are heat related)

It's possible you do not have good contact with the CPU/fan, If you remove the heatsink you NEED to clean and reapply before replacing the HSF. Sometimes the thermal "pads" can be reused though. I would clean whatever's on there now and apply some Artic Silver 5 thermal paste, but in a pinch, the generic Radio Shack stuff will work too.

Could be that the heatsink doesn't have the proper contact with the CPU. The 4 pins on the heatsink are a bit of a pain to get on correctly, I just did a socket775 cooler a few days ago on that E2140 processor and your cooler is the same configuration. Have you pushed the 4 retaining pins from the cooler into the motherboard?? (it needs quite a bit of pressure to get the 4 pins to snap in, a small push isn't enough, it almost feels like you're going to break it.)

Another possibility is your cpu fan is running slow. Monitor the fan speed under a load as well. (using SpeedFan, Everest, etc.)

Hey, well the temps are 22 to 25 idle now... 40 to 45 load i got some of that Artic silver 5 stuff.... as for the heatsink... yes it's in the case and on correctly... the thing is solid and wont move! i did use arnold schwarzenegger strength to put those pins on... and the heatsink is not moving, as for the heatsink fan? it spins around 2500rpm. so far so good, system has not restarted yet.. (Going on 3 hours now) lol so it must of been a heat issue then?

Those temps sound alot better for your Conroe.

It sounds like the issue was simply overheating. Hopefully random restarts are a thing of the past...
