My main laptop that I use (an HP Elitebook 8460w) finally died the other day, so I've reverted back to my aging 13" HP Pavilion. So...since this one lacks pretty much any kind of power that I need to record, edit, and render videos...I must find an alternative. Budget of about 1000 dollars, what recommendations can anyone make towards a nice 15-17" laptop that will have plenty of fire power towards gaming, recording, and editing.

Any one have any opinions on Asus ROG products?

I managed to cannibalize another laptop in order to fix the one I own...so not really in a hurry to pick one up anymore...

Personally I'm a big fan of anything Asus, but you'll probably get a better value from a high-end laptop without the ROG branding.

The real trick is finding a laptop that doesn't overspec the CPU and neglect the GPU. Everybody is stuffing i7s into laptops with pitiful 650M GPUs and it's hurting the average consumer.
